- Muriel Baumeister is driven to undertake something fresh.

In the spring of 2023, Muriel Baumeister (52) openly shared her battle against breast cancer, which she'd been battling for a year. Over two years post-diagnosis, she's not officially considered cancer-free yet, but she's cancer-free and back in the limelight, acting again. She wants to move past her illness, as she expressed in an interview with "Bunte". "I want to view this illness period as a parenthesis. And this parenthesis is now closed. I just don't want it to linger constantly."

This isn't an indication of denial or fear, but a desire to move forward. "I would've just liked to put this chapter to bed and move on. In my mind, I think: I've undergone all the treatments, and - hooray! - I've grown my hair back again! So, I must be healthy!"

But is she being overly optimistic? Baumeister acknowledges her lack of attention towards post-cancer care. "I know, I'm not the epitome of a diligent cancer patient. It took me four, almost five months, before I finally went for my post-treatment check-ups. My treating professor called me out and made me feel guilty for my negligence," the 52-year-old clarified. Her family also emphasized the importance of post-treatment care, and now, she's back to regular check-ups.

"I feel great, I'm back"

She feels "amazing" again. Yet, there are days when she feels drained. "But then the question arises: Is the exhaustion due to cancer - or work?" Since Baumeister is currently working five days a week for Sat.1's series "Die Spreewaldklinik", it's her first major role post-illness. "Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure this is all real," she confessed. "That the production chose me - a cancer survivor and former alcoholic." She hopes the industry will see this as a positive sign: "I feel great, I'm back, and I'm keen to take on and shoot various projects again."

Her alcoholism is something she addressed in her 2019 biography "Hinfallen ist keine Schande, nur Liegenbleiben". In October, the 52-year-old will be celebrating her seven-year anniversary of sobriety. "That's a fantastic feeling," Baumeister told "Bunte".

"I'm content with my single status"

Medically, she's doing well, her work is thriving, and her personal life? Muriel Baumeister is happy being single. "I'm not actively seeking a partner - male or female. I'm content with my single status," Baumeister said. "I'm simply single and content with it. Period." She's had "three wonderful relationships in her life".

Baumeister was married three times: She has a son born in 1993 from her marriage to actor Rainer Strecker (58). In 2006, she gave birth to a daughter whose father is actor Pierre Besson (57). In 2014, Baumeister became a mother to another daughter.

The camera captured Muriel Baumeister's emotional return to acting, her face filled with joy as she expressed her eagerness to take on new projects. During one of her post-treatment check-ups, the camera lens focused on the medical documents in her hand, evidence of her dedication to her health after her cancer battle.
