Murderer of 14-year-old Ece from Illerkirchberg sentenced to life imprisonment by final judgment
One year after the murder of 14-year-old Ece in Illerkirchberg, Baden-Württemberg, the perpetrator has been sentenced to life imprisonment. According to information from Monday, the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) confirmed the verdict of the Ulm Regional Court from July.
The regional court had also established the particular severity of the guilt, which makes early release from prison almost impossible. (Ref. 1 StR 428/23)
As the regional court found, the 27-year-old had attacked two girls from behind with a kitchen knife on their way to school on December 5, 2022. He first stabbed a 13-year-old girl in the chest. He then stabbed Ece at least 19 times, who later died in hospital. Her 13-year-old school friend was able to run away after the first stabbing and survived.
According to the verdict, the perpetrator, an asylum seeker, had originally taken the knife with a different motive. He had wanted to kill employees of the district administration office because they refused to issue him a passport. As he had assumed that the girls had seen the knife by chance, he had killed them.
The district court found him guilty of murder, attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm. The defendant appealed against the verdict to the Federal Court of Justice to have it reviewed. However, the court found no legal errors.

The perpetrator, as classified by the BGH, is liable for the murder of Ece in Illerkirchberg, a liability that upholds his sentence of life imprisonment. Despite his initial intent to harm employees of the district administration office, the Murderer's actions resulted in the tragic death of Ece and the injury of another girl. The final judgment by the BGH, confirming the verdict of the Ulm Regional Court, ensures that the Murderer will serve this sentence in its entirety.
