A knife attack occurred at the Mannheim marketplace yesterday, leaving several people hurt, as per the latest reports from the police. According to their statement, a person allegedly attacked multiple individuals around 11:35 am on the marketplace with a knife and injured them. The police claimed that they shot at the assailant, causing harm to him as well.
The situation was deemed safe for further participants. The exact number of injuries and their severity remains undisclosed. The police also mentioned a larger number of officers present at the square in central Mannheim. A rescue helicopter was used as well.
Rail traffic was also temporarily halted between Kurpfalzkreisel and Paradeplatz.
The Mannheim marketplace is situated in the heart of the city, with a population of 300,000, in the northern Baden-Württemberg region.
