Several people have lost their lives in an incident at a restaurant in Playa de Palma, Mallorca. Around 30 others have sustained injuries, as reported by the island's emergency services.
On a Thursday evening, approximately 8pm, it's said that a building, identified as the Medusa Beach Club in Playa de Palma, Mallorca, crumbled to pieces. The specific reason behind this unfortunate event remains unknown. The Mallorca Zeitung (MZ) has confirmed four fatalities, while up to 30 people have incurred injuries.
Local authorities have cordoned off the site and emergency personnel have been dispatched on-scene. Rescue efforts are underway to potentially save people who might be trapped under the debris. Multiple heavy-duty vehicles from the fire department have been deployed for this purpose.
Multiple witnesses have shared their experiences, stating that the upper floor of the two-storey structure came crumbling down first, followed by the lower floor collapsing floor-by-floor. Locals called the police after witnessing this tragic event. In addition, rescuers attempted to save a 24-year-old who was present during the occurrence, but sadly they couldn't.
Authorities are trying their best to save any trapped victims and provide medical care to the hurt. Reports further suggest that other buildings nearby might have been affected as well, prompting a possible evacuation.
