Authorities are seeking public assistance in the aftermath of four individuals escaping from a secure facility in Straubing. Several tips from witnesses have been collected, which are currently being analyzed. Hunting operations continued on Sunday. The public prosecutor's office and criminal police are investigating on grounds of kidnapping and causing grievous bodily harm.

The suspected criminals, aged 27, 28, and 31, allegedly terrorized an employee of the district hospital (BKH) on Saturday evening, assaulting him with both blunt and sharp instruments, and keeping him hostage to force open the gates. The employee sustained facial injuries and was still undergoing hospital treatment in a stationary ward as per police reports on Sunday.

Considered dangerous, the escaped individuals were being held for property and drug-related offenses within the district clinic's custodial care, according to police. The public was advised against offering rides to hitchhikers and maintaining a distance from suspicious individuals. Instead, they were urged to contact the emergency police line 110.

As per the Straubing district hospital's own disclosure, it operates as a specialized clinic for forensic psychiatry and psychotherapy, fulfilling its legal mandate of custodial care under the sponsorship of the Lower Bavaria district.
