Mourning the 'High Energy' singer Evelyn Thomas
Evelyn Thomas landed in the 1980s with "High Energy" a Megahit. The Singer is now 70 years old and has passed away. Her daughter will sing her last song for her.
Evelyn Thomas, who shaped the musical Hi-NRG scene in the 80s, passed away on July 21, 2022, at the age of 70. The singer from Chicago had a major international hit in 1984 with the single "High Energy." In 2022, the magazine "Rolling Stone" included the song in the list of the 200 best dance songs of all time.
Ian Levine, her producer who discovered her in the 1970s, stated after her death, "It's hard for me to accept that my lifelong protege has really left us." He added, "Her music will live on for us all."
Levine continued in his farewell post that after the last recording session in 2009, he had no contact with Thomas. However, a few months ago, she turned to him "full of love" because she knew she was dying. When Levine and Fiachra Trench, co-author of "High Energy," learned of this, they immediately put everything aside to write a last song for Thomas titled "Inspirational." The singer was, however, already too sick to record the song, and now her daughter Kimberly plans to sing it as a memory of her mother.
"I have danced many moves to her music"
Her daughter paid tribute to her mother on social media with a series of photos. "The legacy my mother left me is indescribable, and the memories are priceless. I want to thank all of you for your prayers and kind words. It's time to heal and plan. Evelyn Thomas is missed already. RIP Mami," Kimberly Thomas wrote on Facebook.
Fans and musical companions bid farewell to the singer after the news of Evelyn Thomas' death. "She was the best, I have danced many moves to her music," or "It's so sad.... Your mom is gone, but her music will never die...." are just two of many condolence messages to Thomas' post. A user wrote, "I have always loved Evelyn's music, it's connected to my memories of the 80s."
In the 1980s, Evelyn Thomas gained fame with her Pop music hit "High Energy," which became a staple of the Hi-NRG scene. Decades later, her daughter Kimberly will perform this beloved song as a tribute to her mother.
