James Sicking's career spanned over six decades. He became known for his role as Lt. Howard Hunter in the series "Hill Street Blues," which ran for seven seasons from 1981 to 1987. The Emmy-nominated actor also had a leading role as Dr. David Howser, father of the brilliant Doogie (played by Neil Patrick Harris, 51), in the series "Doogie Howser, M.D.," which aired from 1989 to 1993.
Although he was best known for his TV roles, James Sikking also had numerous appearances on the stage and the big screen. For instance, he played an assassin in John Boorman's (91) film "Point Blank" (1967), as Federation Captain Styles in "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" (1984) under the direction of Leonard Nimoy (1931-2015), or as the FBI director in Alan J. Pakula's (1928-1998) "The Parallax View" (1993). He was also seen in the films "The Magnificent Seven Ride!" (1972), "A Man for All Season" (2005), or "Fool's Gold" (2008).
