Moritz remained faithful regretted late fatherhood

Moritz remained faithful regretted late fatherhood

At 38, Moritz Bleibtreu becomes a father for the first time. Too late, as the actor now admits. He explains in an interview with Barbara Schoeneberger that he was too heavily influenced and scared by the older generation for a long time.

Not much is known about Moritz Bleibtreu's private life. It's clear that the actor married his partner Saskia in July 2022. And from his long-term relationship with ex-girlfriend Annika, he has a son born in 2008. That's about all the information the "Lammbock" actor has shared. So it's quite surprising that he's now revealing details in Barbara Schoeneberger's podcast "Mit den Waffeln einer Frau". In the conversation with the host, he talks about the downsides of late family expansion.

Bleibtreu was 38 when his son David was born. "If you start as late as most people do nowadays, you miss out on so many aspects," he explains. It's harder to have more children, and grandparents are no longer around. "My mom only got to see my son for half a year, unfortunately, because she then passed away. If I'd had him when I was 18, he'd have had 20 years with a grandma." Monica Bleibtreu, also an actress, died of lung cancer in 2009 at the age of 65.

More offspring for Bleibtreu?

Bleibtreu also talks about why he started planning a family so late. He thinks his generation was scared off by the older ones: "Money, and you need this and that, and don't have kids too early," he remembers. Now he realizes that the scare was unnecessary. "It's all doable," he insists. "I think we've done ourselves a disservice with this '70s anti-authority thing, breaking everything that's traditional and conservative." Barbara Schoeneberger, who became a mother for the first time at 36, agrees. "If I'd known, I'd have started earlier too," the now 50-year-old tells the actor.

But even though he regrets becoming a father so late, it seems the topic of more children isn't closed for Moritz Bleibtreu, who's now 52. In May, he told the magazine "Bunte" that he could still imagine having more children. "Family is such a huge source of happiness," he said. "The more time I spend chasing a supposed career, the less time I have for what brings me private happiness."

Bleibtreu mentions that his mother only got to spend half a year with his son David due to her passing, which happened shortly after David's birth. This was a consequence of starting a family later in life.

Despite regretting starting a family later, Bleibtreu expresses that he could still consider having more children, emphasizing the joy that family brings to his life.
