Moaning and baby cries disrupt European Championship draw
The group draw for the 2024 European Football Championship in the Elbphilharmonie is disturbed by some strange noises. Neither UEFA draw director Giorgio Marchetti nor the guests can ignore them. At first it sounds like a baby crying, later like a woman moaning.
During the group draw for the upcoming European Football Championship 2024 in Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie concert hall, the guests heard strange noises. UEFA draw director Giorgio Marchetti was not unaware of them either. "Here are a few noises ...", he comments on what is happening.
Guests in the concert hall and Marchetti first heard a sound like a baby crying, later it sounded like a woman moaning. UEFA also confirms these impressions, but is initially unable to provide an explanation. The sounds can also be heard on TV and in the UEFA stream.
On Platform X, the English comedian Daniel Jarvis has now claimed to be the cause of the noise. There you can also see how he apparently manipulated the sound in the concert hall during the draw show.
According to participants in the draw, this was reminiscent of an incident during the broadcast of the FA Cup tie between Liverpool FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers on British TV station BBC in January. Ex-professional and presenter Gary Lineker had asked a question to his colleague Alan Shearer when suddenly a woman's moaning could be heard. Jarvis also claims to have been responsible for this.
The German national soccer team will face Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland in Group A at the home European Championship 2024. National coach Julian Nagelsmann's side will play their opening match against Scotland in Munich on June 14, with Hungary their second opponent four days later in Stuttgart. The preliminary round concludes on June 23 in Frankfurt against Switzerland.
"It's a very interesting group, especially the opening game against Scotland. It's obviously emotional, they have great fans. I think it will be a great start in Munich. Hungary and Switzerland have some Bundesliga players, including some I've coached myself. I think they will be exciting duels," commented national coach Julian Nagelsmann on the draw.
