Melanie Müller skips court hearing
The process against Melanie Müller, who is accused of displaying the Hitler salute and possessing drugs, has been postponed again. The reason is said to be an illness of the 36-year-old, who recently appeared healthy on stage in Mallorca. Is that allowed?
The trial against Melanie Müller for using symbols of unconstitutional organizations began again. The reason for the postponement was the illness of the 36-year-old, the Leipzig Magistrates Court announced. A new main hearing date has not been set yet.
However, Müller almost appeared at the same time on stage in "Oberbayern" on Mallorca. She reportedly entered the crowd the previous night. In videos of the performance, she dances and sings on stage, and she looks anything but "sick" in them. Defense attorney Jan Siebenhüner stated in response to an inquiry from RTL: Even if she performs, it has no legal consequences. She only needs to present a doctor's certificate at the next hearings in case of illness.
The process has already been postponed for the second time. It was originally scheduled to begin on June 18. The hearing was already postponed on June 2 due to Müller's illness.
Hitler Salute and Drug Possession
The Leipzig Public Prosecutor's Office filed charges against Müller in May, as she is accused of publicly displaying the Hitler salute multiple times. The investigators refer to an incident in the night of September 18, 2022, in Leipzig. On stage, she is said to have shown the Hitler salute towards the audience several times. In addition, there is a charge of drug possession. Müller is said to have had 0.69 grams of cocaine residue and an Ecstasy tablet in her Leipzig apartment according to the indictment.
Müller denied the allegations and any connection to "Right-wing radicals or nationalist thought patterns." She emphasized that the gesture was a movement to heat up the audience. For the singer, the presumption of innocence applies until a legally binding conviction.
Müller was born in Oschatz, Saxony. In 2014, she won the eighth season of "I'm a Star - Get me out of here!" and appeared in numerous TV formats afterwards. As a schlager singer, she sings on Mallorca, among other places, in the discotheques "Bierkönig" and "Oberbayern" and performs at booked events.
- Despite facing charges for displaying the Hitler salute and drug possession, Melanie Müller continued to perform entertainment shows in Mallorca, which include singing pop music at venues like "Bierkönig" and "Oberbayern."
- Despite her ongoing legal case for right-wing extremism-related allegations, Müller's performance in the Mallorcan jungle camp, known for its lively entertainment scene, appeared to indicate she was in good health.
- In light of the controversy surrounding her legal case involving unconstitutional symbols and drug possession, Melanie Müller's continued engagement with the entertaining pop music scene in Mallorca raises interesting questions about the distinction between personal life and public image.
