Postponed Event Featuring Melanie Müller: Hitler Salute Allegations
The trial for singer Melanie Müller, accused of flaunting symbols of unconstitutional groups, has been rescheduled. Müller reportedly fell ill, as announced by the Leipzig District Court. Originally scheduled for a Thursday, the main hearing will now be on July 2nd, as previously planned. A backup hearing has been scheduled for July 10th.
charges against Müller were filed by the Leipzig Public Prosecutor's Office in May, claiming that she publicly performed the Hitler salute numerous times. The accusations stem from an incident that took place in Leipzig during the early hours of September 18, 2022, when she is said to have made the salute towards the audience multiple times on stage. Furthermore, she is charged with drug possession. The indictment states that Müller had 0.69 grams of cocaine base and an Ecstasy tablet in her Leipzig apartment in the past.
Müller asserts her innocence and denies any affiliation with "Right-wing radicals or nationalist ideology." She maintains that the gesture was meant to excite the audience. Under German law, Müller is presumed innocent until a legally binding conviction.
Müller, born in Oschatz, Saxony, previously appeared in porn films before gaining fame through her participation in the RTL show "Der Bachelor" in 2013. She went on to win the eighth season of "Ich bin ein Star - Holt mich hier raus!" and has since featured in various other TV formats. Currently, she is attempting to carve a niche for herself as a schlager singer, such as at the "Ballermann" on Mallorca.
