Following a meeting with his cabinet, Slovakian Prime Minister Fico succumbs to gunshots delivered by an attacker. His health status is deemed critical by medical personnel. Doctors have since conducted a follow-up operation on Fico.

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, has endured another operation and, in the words of his physicians, continues to battle a serious illness. Miriam Lapunikova, the hospital director at the F. D. Roosevelt University Hospital in Banska Bystrica, shared the news that the high-ranking official remains conscious and in relatively stable condition, though in the throes of intensive care. She noted, "It could take a few more days before we can definitively determine the flow of future progress."

Fico was targeted with a gun on Wednesday, sustaining multiple bullet wounds. At a press conference, the Defence Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Robert Kalinak, reaffirmed the government's continued operation while adding, "The state is steady and, right now, the patient is also stable."

The attack occurred as Fico engaged with supporters post-government gathering in the town of Handlová. One individual was detained by authorities. This person was later transferred to his residence in Levice, prompting speculation of a search for evidence. According to reports, police confiscated a personal computer and documents during their proceedings.

The public prosecutor has barred the disclosure of the suspect's identity, along with other details of the case. However, unconfirmed media stories suggest that the perpetrator was a 71-year-old pensioner recognized as an amateur poet and potentially a former security guard in a shopping center in the country's southwestern region. An announcement from the government clarified that the suspect had no affiliation with any political faction. Notwithstanding this clarification, officials maintain that the incident carries political undertones.
