Martin Scorsese defends his actor
Alongside superstars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro and acclaimed newcomer Lily Gladstone, the performance of Oscar winner Brendan Fraser in "Killers of the Flower Moon" could almost be overlooked. Fraser enters the film's stage very late on, namely at a court hearing in the final third of Martin Scorsese's western epic.
However, the 54-year-old's somewhat overdrawn, bordering on overacting portrayal of the southern lawyer W. S. Hamilton has attracted a lot of criticism on social networks and the vastness of the internet. Some even went so far as to demand the return of Fraser's Oscar, which he had just won for "The Whale". The streaming service Apple TV+, on which "Killers of the Flower Moon" will ultimately be shown, also felt compelled to defend Fraser's exalted play with a social media post pointing out aspects of the original book.
Oscar winner and directing legend Scorsese has now joined the discussion. In a press conference, the 80-year-old defended his prominent supporting actor , according to "LADBible". Fraser is "a wonderful actor and it was just great to work with him", said Scorsese.
Production thought Fraser was "great"
The entire production thought he was "great" for the role of the lawyer. Scorsese himself had also admired Fraser's work for years. On "Killers of the Flower Moon", the actor joined the shoot late and only spent a few weeks on set. Scorsese continued: "We had a really good time working together, especially with Leo. Especially in the scene where he says, 'They're putting a noose around your neck, he's saving you, you silly boy'." Fraser also filled out the picture with his considerable girth at the time of filming - another factor that obviously appealed to director Scorsese.
Despite facing criticism for his performance in "Killers of the Flower Moon," Brendan Fraser's acting skills were highly praised by Hollywood director Martin Scorsese. In a dramatic turn of events, Fraser's portrayal of the southern lawyer W.S. Hamilton in the thrilling western epic was commended by Scorsese, who shared their work experience on sets and appreciated Fraser's on-screen transformation in the drama. The iconic cinema veteran further expressed his admiration for Fraser's talent, stating that it was an honor to collaborate with him in the cinematic world of Hollywood.
