Mark Zuckerberg gives his wife a statue
Who wouldn't be delighted by their own likeness enlarged?! And in turquoise, no less! Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has just given his wife Priscilla Chan such a gift in the form of a towering statue. What else would he spend his money on?
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has given his wife Priscilla Chan an oversized gift: he had a statue made of her, which looks like Chan herself. Zuckerberg shared a photo of his wife in front of the artwork in a garden on Instagram.
The sculpture towers over its human counterpart, its body is turquoise and enveloped in a silvery veil. "I'm bringing back the Roman tradition of commissioning statues of one's own wife," the 40-year-old wrote. However, he didn't specify which tradition he was referring to. In ancient Rome, gods, rulers, and heroes were popular subjects for statues.
The 39-year-old in the flesh, however, is wearing a pink bathrobe and holding a cup that is as turquoise as the statue. Chan also shared the picture on her Instagram story, writing, "Can't miss me now!" The artist Daniel Arsham, who created the sculpture, also posted the photo on his Instagram account.
From Bunker to Yacht
"I've been wanting to make a sculpture of her for years, and when the opportunity arose to work with Arsham, I finally did it," Zuckerberg explains the collaboration with the artist. And he adds that he simply tries "to keep a steady stream of creative projects going."
Or perhaps he's just finding ways to spend his money. After all, Zuckerberg's fortune is estimated at around $180 billion. Last year, it was reported that he was building a bunker complex on a vast estate in Hawaii. Not long after, the fourth-richest man in the world treated himself to a $300 million yacht just before his 40th birthday on May 14.
The statue of Priscilla Chan, created by artist Daniel Arsham, has made her a part of the celebrity couples with a unique tribute. Following his birthday, Mark Zuckerberg also purchased a luxury $300 million yacht, showcasing his wealth.
