Throughout his career, James penned hits for artists like B.J. Thomas (1942-2021), Brenda Lee (age 79), and Elvis Presley (1935-1977). Some of his most iconic works include "Suspicious Minds" (1969), "Always on My Mind" (1982), and "Hooked on a Feeling" (1974).
In 2014, James received a well-deserved spot in the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York City. Additionally, Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) recognized him as one of their century's greatest songwriters in 2000.
