Margrethe has departed from the medical facility.
Following the declaration that Queen Margrethe required hospitalization, she's now out and recuperating at Fredensborg Castle. The 84-year-old monarch is still in need of rest, sporting a neck brace and a cast on her left hand.
The Royal Danish Palace shared an update on Margrethe's health, stating, "Today, Queen Margrethe was discharged from Rigshospitalet and returned to her residence at Fredensborg Castle." This information was shared across various platform on the palace's website.
It came to light on Thursday that the fall that led to her hospitalization happened on Wednesday evening. Her injuries include damage to the cervical spine area and a fracture on her left hand. The fall was only recently disclosed.
The palace further explained, "The fall has left her with a cast on her left hand, and she'll have to wear a rigid neck brace for an extended period." Despite these challenges, the Queen remains optimistic, maintaining a positive attitude under the circumstances. Her recovery process, however, means she'll be taking an extended leave. Consequently, several events she was scheduled to attend will be cancelled.
Abdication in January
Prior to her hospitalization, the former regent had participated in an event. This doesn't come as a surprise, considering Queen Margrethe's continued dedication to her official duties, despite her abdication in January. She continues to hold her queen title, and her role in carrying out numerous tasks in the name of the crown remains unchanged.
In her New Year's speech, she announced her intention to hand over the sceptre to her son, Frederik, on January 14. Exactly 52 years after her ascension to the throne, this announcement caught many off guard. She explained that a back operation scheduled for 2023 motivated this decision. "Indeed, the operation sparked contemplation about the future, whether the time was ripe to transfer responsibility to the next generation. I have decided that the time is now right," she stated.
The Royal Danish Palace shared details about Queen Margrethe's continuing recovery, mentioning, "She'll be taking an extended leave, which means several events scheduled with her attendance will need to be cancelled." Despite this, the Queen continues to maintain a positive outlook, demonstrating, "Her dedication to her official duties remains unchanged, even after her abdication in January." The entertainment for these cancelled events will need to be rearranged or adjusted accordingly.
