Thuringia - Man shot dead in Erfurt - large-scale police operation underway
After a murder in Erfurt, a large-scale operation by the Thuringian Police is underway. The suspect is on the run and may be armed, as the police in Erfurt announced on Thursday. Therefore, "intensive search and investigation measures" are being taken. The police operation in northern Erfurt continued in the morning, as a spokesperson for the responsible prosecutor's office in Erfurt stated.
In the night, a person was shot in the northern part of the Thuringian state capital. The approximate time of the crime was 11:30 pm. The area around the alleged crime scene in a housing estate was cordoned off. The prosecutor's office initially made no statements about the identity of the deceased. The background of the crime, according to police information, is still unclear.
The large-scale operation by the Thuringian Police is being conducted in the same northern part of Erfurt where the murder occurred. The police are urging residents in the vicinity to stay indoors as a precaution due to the armed suspect.
