Luxury apartment of Kevin Spacey to be auctioned off
Once acclaimed actor Kevin Spacey is facing a financial crisis after allegations of sexual assault. And it's a severe one, with his Baltimore residence even being put up for auction at the steps of a courthouse.
Actor Kevin Spacey's 5.6 million dollar waterfront apartment in Baltimore was sold at a foreclosure auction. The apartment at the harbor reportedly fetched 3.24 million dollars according to the responsible auctioneer. The apartment on a pier includes six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, an elevator, a sauna, a cinema, a rooftop terrace, and a garage for four cars.
Interested buyers gathered for the auction on the steps of a Baltimore courthouse and submitted their bids, according to local media. The apartment went to a real estate entrepreneur, whose identity was kept secret, as reported by "The Baltimore Sun."
Spacey has financial troubles since a series of sexual misconduct allegations against him were raised. In an emotional interview with British talk show host Piers Morgan in June, Spacey stated that he had millions in debts, mostly due to unpaid legal fees. Additionally, the Baltimore apartment was threatened with foreclosure.
Spacey moved to the area in 2012 to begin filming the series "House of Cards." Spacey told Morgan that he would have to return to the city and store all his possessions.
A London jury acquitted Spacey last summer on sexual assault charges based on allegations from four men. Spacey denied the charges and testified in court that they had ruined his acting career during the #MeToo movement.
Following his financial struggles due to sexual misconduct allegations, Kevin Spacey's entertainment career took a significant hit during the MeToo movement. Despite selling his luxury apartment in Baltimore at a foreclosure auction, Spacey expressed his worries about returning to the city to retrieve his possessions. In the aftermath of the sexualized violence allegations, Spacey's private debts, primarily legal fees, mounted, leading to his financial crisis.
