London: Russian punitive battalions must continue fighting wounded

According to British estimates, members of Russian assault units are being sent back to the war against Ukraine with unhealed wounds and even after amputations.

The British Ministry of Defense referred to "credible reports" in its daily intelligence update. According to these reports, members of the infantry groups known as "Storm Z" received minimal or no treatment. According to British information, these troops are punitive battalions made up of former prisoners and disgraced soldiers.

Militias from the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, which was annexed by Russia in violation of international law, and members of the Wagner private army are also receiving inadequate treatment, London was told. However, former convicts, who made up the majority of the "Storm Z" units, were particularly affected. "One reason is that the prisoners often lack the papers required for access to military hospitals." This reduces the pressure on the military's overburdened medical system.

Since the start of the war against Ukraine in February 2022, the British Ministry of Defense has published daily information on the progress of the war. Moscow accuses London of disinformation.
