"Bad Egg": Singer and actress Lily Allen (39) is currently facing backlash due to her actions of returning a dog to the animal shelter after the pet ate their family's passports.

"We adopted a dog a while back, but then it went ahead and chomped on my passport and the kids'. So I had to send them packin', back home," she spilled in her podcast "Miss Me?". "It gobbled up all our three passports and our visas. I can't even begin to tell you how much coin it cost me to replace everything, seeing as it was during Covid. It was quite the predicament." Residing in New York with her partner David Harbour (49) and their two daughters Ethel (13) and Marnie (11), the London native is currently in the doghouse.

"You've put a wrench in my plans"

The adoption of the puppy in 2021 "threw a monkey wrench" into her life. The loss of travel documents kept her daughters from catching up with their dad Sam Cooper (46), who resides in England, for "four, five months".

Allen saw no other alternative but to give up the canine companion: "Passports weren't the only thing down its gullet, this furball wasn't exactly a well-trained pooch. I gave it my all, but it just wasn't in the cards and the passports were just the tip of the iceberg." The Briton is met with no pity.

Animal lovers are irate

Ensuing Lily Allen's lament, numerous fans reportedly took to X (formerly Twitter) to berate the celeb:

"Did she take precautions to keep the passports out of reach for a puppy? No. What a selfish individual," one user ranted. "This is all on her, not the hapless dog." "She's a nitwit of the highest order for not securing her important documents away from animals," another bashed. "There are no badly behaved dogs, only badly behaved owners. A dog didn't sabotage your plans, you sabotaged yourself by not watching your things," a third opined.

Despite her sour experiences with man's best friend, Allen is keeping her paws crossed for adopting another furry friend. She and her daughters have settled on a Chihuahua mix and plan to name it Jude Bellingham (an english footballer).

The partners, David Harbour and Lily Allen, were disappointed by the dog's behavior, as they had to deal with the consequences of its actions. Despite the backlash, Allen expressed her desire to adopt another dog, planning to name it after an English footballer, Jude Bellingham.
