Bidding Event - Lennon's supposedly missing guitar generates millions.

A previously lost John Lennon guitar, thought to be found on a New York rooftop, has been sold for a whopping $2.9 million (around €2.7 million). According to Julien's auction house, this makes it the most expensive guitar ever auctioned related to the Beatles.

The winning bid was placed via phone. At first, the identity of the bidder was kept under wraps. The auction house initially anticipated a maximum bid between $600,000 and $800,000.

The heralded twelve-string Hootenanny guitar, manufactured by German company Framus, was a favorite of Beatles legend Lennon. The guitar features in several photographs from "Help!" album sessions and also in the 1965 Beatles film of the same name.

Subsequent to that, the guitar relocated to a rooftop in southern England, where it was stowed away for over 50 years. After Lennon gifted it to musician Gordon Waller, it was passed down through his manager's heirs. They uncovered the guitar on the rooftop. The auction house undertook a restoration process to bring the instrument back to playable condition.
