Lawyer for Trump casts doubt on trustworthiness of key testifiers

Trump's lawyer has tried to discredit a crucial witness in his hush money trial, highlighting their past falsehoods. Attorney Todd Blanche crossed-examined Michael Cohen, ex-personal lawyer to Trump, in New York court on Thursday. He accused Cohen of repeatedly lying, including while speaking under oath before US Congress, in a similar court setting.

This trial focuses on the accusation that Trump paid 130,000 dollars to Stormy Daniels, a porn star, to keep her quiet about a supposed one-night encounter with him. Although both parties agree on the transaction, it's the alleged manipulation of documents to reimburse the money that's under scrutiny. The prosecution argues that this constitutes illegal campaign financing. Trump, the first former US president to face criminal trials in history, has pleaded not guilty.

Cohen, 77, also faced scrutiny from the defense for his own past record of untruthfulness. He was asked about a podcast he hosted, wherein he vowed to exact revenge on the former president.
