Kobe Bryant - Lakers jersey with the number 24 auctioned off

A memento of the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant (1978-2020) has found a new owner for a lot of money: As the US magazine "People" reports, the auction house SCP Auctions has auctioned off the Lakers jersey with the number 24 as well as the matching shorts and shoes for a total of 485,197 dollars (approx. 450,000 euros).

Twenty people are said to have submitted bids in the auction for the basketball uniform that the athlete wore in his last away game of his career on April 11, 2016. The minimum bid was 50,000 dollars. The jersey and shorts together sold for 366,967 dollars, while the Nike"Kobe 11 Elite Low" shoes fetched a price of 118,230 dollars.

The auctioned jersey has this special feature

According to the auction house, the auctioned jersey has a special feature that makes it even more interesting for collectors: a microphone pocket in the front waistband of his shorts, so that Kobe Bryant could be equipped with a microphone during the game. "Most jerseys that are customized for wearing a microphone have this pocket along the inseam near the armpit. That may have been too uncomfortable for Bryant, so he opted to put it in his shorts instead. We know that was one of Kobe's favorite shorts for traveling. He wore this solution in nine more games in the last two months of his farewell season."

Kobe Bryant is considered one of the most successful and best basketball players of all time. He played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA throughout his professional career from 1996 to 2016. In January 2020, Bryant was killed in a helicopter accident in Calabasas near Los Angeles along with one of his daughters, Gianna.
