Kontra K heats up the national team
The official EM-song is called "Fire" and is from Meduza, One Republic, and Leony. However, for the German football-national team, "Success is not luck" from Kontra K seems to be working better. Now, the rapper personally gave the team a little motivation boost for the round of 16.
We have made it through the group stage. For the German football-national team, it's the first real thing at stake on Saturday in the round of 16 against Denmark. A little motivation push certainly won't hurt. According to a report from "Bild" newspaper, this is now being provided by rapper Kontra K.
The 36-year-old is said to have visited the team, led by captain Ilkay Gündogan, personally at his EM quarters in the Franconian Herzogenaurach. Kontra K reportedly gave a private concert for the team, which is said to be a fan of his hit "Success is not luck."
"Success is not luck, but only the result of blood, sweat, and tears. Life pays everything back, it only depends on what you are - shadow or light," says the refrain of the song, which seems to fit perfectly to motivate the team. However, the song has actually been around for nine years and thus has nothing to do with the EM in reality. The official EM song is from Meduza, One Republic, and Leony and is called "Fire."
Kontra K rides a bike
According to the "Bild" report, Kontra K performed "Success is not luck" for the entire team. The musician himself shared a video on Instagram, which shows him riding a bike - apparently on the terrain in Herzogenaurach. His performance was also reportedly heard outside the quarters later, according to "Bild."
The DFB team had also had other musicians as guests at tournaments in the past. In 2021, Peter Maffay visited the team before their round of 16 match of the European football championship against England in London. Maffay is said to have performed two songs for the German team - the big hit "Über sieben Brücken musst du geh'n" and a song from his "Tabaluga" series. However, it didn't help the team then, as they lost the game and were eliminated.
Now, it is hoped that it will go better with Kontra K, who is also known as Maximilian Diehn. The artist from Berlin, who is one of the most famous rappers in Germany, released his debut album in 2010. It was followed by numerous successful releases such as "Labyrinth" (2016), "Aus dem Licht in den Schatten zurück" (2021), and "Die Hoffnung klaut mir niemand" from November 2023.
