Kim Cattrall serves Grenades to Ex-Colleagues

In the final episode of the second season of "And Just Like That ..." Kim Cattrall surprises with a brief appearance. Many fans hope for a full return of her role Samantha Jones afterwards. But the 67-year-old actress denies this now.

Many fans had hoped for a reunion with Kim Cattrall in her famous role of Samantha Jones in "Sex and the City." But now the actress has spoken out about the rumors that she might appear in the third season of the spin-off "And Just Like That ..." and dashed all hopes. On Sunday, she denied rumors that she would be reprising her role. A fan had asked if she would be there, to which she replied with an X: "Oh, that's so sweet, but that's not me."

Rumors of Cattrall's return to the third season, which is currently being filmed, have grown in the past few days and have been widely reported in the media. In the first season, her role was only visible through text message exchanges with Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker). In the finale of the second season, she made a brief appearance to the delight of fans. In her much-anticipated appearance, Samantha called Carrie from London and said she wanted to surprise her in New York City but couldn't due to flight delays.

"Heart-wrenching" portrayal of her character

Her character wore a silver jacket and a red ensemble designed by costume designer Patricia Field, who designed the costumes for the original series. At an appearance on the talk show "The View" at the time, Cattrall said: "I just thought if I come back, I have to come back with this Samantha style."

Kim Cattrall had previously spoken openly about not wanting to be part of the new show. Besides her long-standing feud with Sarah Jessica Parker, she also took issue with the portrayal of her character in the script for the never-produced third film of "Sex and the City." In May 2022, she told "Variety": "It was heart-wrenching." She added that she no longer had the desire to take on her role as Samantha again.

Cattrall also spoke about the challenges of playing a character over several decades. "Everything has to grow, or it dies. When the series ended, I thought that was smart. We don't repeat ourselves. And then the film to wrap up all the loose ends. And then another film?"

Even with the brief appearance in the finale of the second season, fans continue to pine for a full-fledged return of Samantha Jones in the third season of "And Just Like That ..." on television. Regardless of the popular demand, Kim Cattrall has made it clear that she won't be reprising her role in any upcoming movie or series, citing the heart-wrenching portrayal of her character in the script as a major factor.
