Kiev Seizes Declaration on International Instructors
Ukraine has entered discussions with Western nations, including France, to allow foreign military trainers to instruct its soldiers within the country. However, this was recently clarified by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, as earlier statements assumed an agreement had been reached.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov disclosed that negotiations are ongoing with France and other countries concerning the presence of foreign military instructors within the country's borders. This comes with Ukraine's proposal for local training, instead of sending soldiers abroad since February, according to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry. "We are still in talks with France and other countries on this matter," Umerov stated.
Syrskyj, a Ukrainian commander, had previously asserted that an agreement with France was completed, permitting French trainers to visit Ukraine and familiarize themselves with the training centers. This, however, was refuted by Umerov, adding that the documentation required to enable such an agreement was still being prepared. "The Defense Ministry has begun working with the General Staff on the internal preparation of the relevant documents to avoid wasting time with bureaucratic issues once a decision is made," the ministry confirmed.
Since the Russian invasion in 2014, Ukraine has sought assistance in defending itself against further invasion. It has received support from several Western countries, who provide weapons and train its soldiers. To reduce the personnel burden and excel in training efficiency, Ukrainian officials saw merit in bringing these military trainers into its nation rather than sending their soldiers abroad for training.
