Kiev claims heaviest daily Russian losses since the war's onset.
Ukraine has been reporting losses of soldiers and military equipment on Russia's side for a while now. On Monday, the Ukrainian army reported the heaviest casualties for Russia's troops since the start of the large-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. According to them, the Russian army suffered a loss of 1740 soldiers in one day, a number that has not been seen since the beginning of the invasion. However, these numbers cannot be verified independently, but Western observers believe they are not entirely fabricated.
In recent weeks, Ukraine has been reporting daily losses of Russian soldiers and equipment. Most of these reports have put the number of Russian casualties between 900 and 1200. The significant increase in casualties, which culminated in a record figure of 1740 in a single day, is most likely related to Russia's recent offensive near Kharkiv.
The casualties on Tuesday were also unusually high at 1400. The Ukrainian government claims that a total of 485,430 Russian soldiers have been killed or injured in the war so far. In March, NATO estimated 350,000 Russian casualties, while the US assumed 315,000 by the end of 2023.
Military analyst Colonel Reisner told ntv.de in late April that while Russian losses are high, there's no sign of the army's disintegration. New Russian Defense Minister Andrey Beloussov recently stated at a parliamentary session that he wanted to win the war in Ukraine with the smallest possible losses among his own troops.
Russia is also said to be facing issues in finding new volunteers for the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin is hesitant to declare a general mobilization, as it is unpopular among the population. Hundreds of thousands of Russians have already fled abroad due to the partial mobilization in the autumn of 2022.

The escalating 'Attack on Ukraine' has led to an increase in reported casualties and equipment losses on the Russian side. This surge in losses, including the record-breaking 1740 soldiers in a single day, is being attributed to Russia's recent offensive near Kharkiv. Despite these heavy 'Wars and conflicts'-related losses, military analysts suggest that the Russian army has not yet shown signs of disintegration.
