KI confronts Scarlett Johansson
Artificial Intelligence approaches humanity like a roughly 300 meter high wave, according to actress Scarlett Johansson. One of the pioneers, she can easily imagine herself as a Marvel villain against him.
Is Scarlett Johansson and Sam Altman's dispute entering a new round? In May, the actress and the co-founder of OpenAI made headlines when the company was accused of using Johansson's voice in a version of ChatGPT without permission. In an interview with the "New York Times," the 39-year-old went on the record again about the dispute with her contemporary Altman and her disdain for Artificial Intelligence. Deepfake technologies are "a dark rabbit hole, from which one can never escape."
Artificial Intelligence is developing "faster than our fragile human ego can process it, and the consequences are everywhere to be seen." The technology comes upon humanity like a roughly 300 meter high wave. In response to a question about whether Altman would make a good Marvel villain, Johansson replied: "I think so - maybe with a robotic arm."
Dispute over Johansson's Voice
Users noticed that the voice option "Sky" in the new version of ChatGPT bore a strong resemblance to Johansson's voice. Johansson, who lends her voice to a KI assistant in the film "Her" (2013), stated in May that she was contacted by Altman in 2023 and refused to make her voice available for ChatGPT. When she heard the used voice, she was "shocked, appalled, and disbelieving," she told the "New York Times."
"I also felt it would be strange for my children. I try to consider their feelings," she explained. The use of her voice went against Johansson's values.
OpenAI denied any connection between "Sky" and Johansson in May. The voice belonged "to another professional actress," whose name, however, was not disclosed. After Johansson's complaint, Altman announced that the voice option "would no longer be made available out of respect."
Scarlett Johansson, known for her disdain towards Artificial Intelligence, mentioned in her interview with the "New York Times" that Sam Altman, co-founder of OpenAI, could potentially make a compelling Marvel villain with a robotic arm, given his involvement in the AI field. Despite the controversy surrounding the use of her voice in a version of ChatGPT without her permission, Johansson continues to be a significant figure in Hollywood's entertainment industry.
