Kendrick Lamar tapped as main act for 2025 Super Bowl intermission spectacle
Lamar made it known on Sunday through his social media platforms, as well as the NFL, that he'll be gracing us with his presence in a significant capacity.
"Rap music remains the most influential genre, and I'm here to remind the world why they made the right choice," he stated on that day.
Super Bowl LIX is scheduled for February 9, 2025, taking place in New Orleans and aired on FOX.
The NFL, along with Roc Nation and Apple Music, announced this major event on the inaugural Sunday of the 2024-2025 regular season.
Lamar made his initial appearance on the Super Bowl halftime show stage during his 2022 performance alongside Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, and 50 Cent.
This time, however, he'll be the main attraction, captivating millions of viewers annually.
Jay-Z, CEO of Roc Nation, named Lamar a "once-in-a-generation artist and performer" in a statement, lauding his ability to influence culture globally.
"His passionate connection to hip-hop and culture underlies his creative vision, and he has an unrivaled capacity to reshape and impact culture around the world," Jay-Z continued.
Lamar is widely recognized as one of hip-hop's top talent. He's garnered 17 Grammy Awards and received a Pulitzer Prize for his 2017 album "Damn," marking him as the first non-classical, non-jazz musician to claim this prestigious accolade.
In 2022, he released his fifth studio album, titled "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers," followed by his hit single "Like That," featuring Future and Metro Boomin, which maintained the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart for three consecutive weeks. His track "Not Like Us," released during his well-publicized feud with rapper Drake, even claimed the top spot on the chart for two straight weeks.
Last year, Usher headlined the Super Bowl halftime show with a 13-minute trip down memory lane, making it the most-watched halftime performance in history, according to Billboard, amassing an average of 123.4 million viewers. Rihanna's 2023 set came in second, with an audience of 121 million viewers.
The exciting Super Bowl LVIII matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers drew in a record-breaking viewership of 100 million Americans, making it the most-watched American TV broadcast in recent history, as stated by CBS.
