Keith Richards celebrates 40th wedding anniversary
Keith Richards can't stop celebrating. The Rolling Stones guitarist has just turned 80, and now he and his wife Patti are also celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. To mark the occasion, the musician addressed his sweetheart directly on social media.
Keith Richards celebrated a milestone birthday on Monday. But that's not the only reason for the 80-year-old Rolling Stones guitarist to raise a glass to his loved ones. Another reason is that he has now spent half of his life with his wife Patricia Hansen by his side.
The musician congratulated himself and his wife on Instagram with a photo of their wedding, which took place in 1983. "To Patricia - Happy 40th wedding anniversary!" he wrote. In the picture, Keith Richards and Patti Hansen - in a tuxedo and wedding dress on the beach - are cutting a three-tier wedding cake. The British rock star closed his post with the words: "I love you. Keith."
Keith Richards met model Patti Hansen, 13 years his junior, in 1979 at the legendary "Studio 54" in New York. The couple have two daughters together, 38-year-old Theodora and Alexandra, who is a year younger.
A functioning marriage despite rock 'n' roll
Richards is considered the personification of rock 'n' roll, but apparently still has a happy marriage. When asked about his status as a musician, however, the guitarist is modest. "No single person can fill this position," he said in an interview last year. "I find it amazing that people accept my work. I'm really overwhelmed sometimes." Then he laughed. "But I don't want to contradict them either."
And even in his old age, the resilient musician continues to cement his legendary status. His Rolling Stones' latest LP, "Hackney Diamonds", is one of the most successful albums of the year. The next tour of the restless veterans, which will take them through North America in spring and summer, was sold out after a short time. Behind the scenes, plans for Europe are already underway.
