Keanu Reeves ponders death
Despite what may be hard to believe, Keanu Reeves' 60th birthday is approaching. And so, the actor often finds himself pondering the subject of mortality more frequently. This is one of the reasons why his recently published first novel touches on the theme of death.
It's no wonder that so many photos exist of Keanu Reeves looking sad, one might think (in a nutshell, "Sad Keanu"): The actor often contemplates death. He recently revealed this in an interview with "BBC News". After all, he is already 59 years old, so he thinks about his mortality constantly.
But for the "Matrix" star, the persistent presence of death in his mind has nothing negative. "I hope it's not debilitating, I hope it sensitizes us for the breath we have, and the relationships we can have," he said.
Authors have gone under
The introspection on death was triggered by the publication of Keanu Reeves' first novel. The story is about an immortal warrior who wants to die. "The Book of Elsewhere" is available in the English-speaking world from July 23rd.
Reeves co-wrote the book with the British Sci-Fi author China Mieville. However, Mieville's influence on the book is downplayed by Reeves. "I didn't write a novel," he told BBC. "China wrote a novel." He just contributed.
The novel's character doesn't want to die
"The Book of Elsewhere" takes place in the world of "BRZRKR," Reeves' successful comic series. "BRZRKR" (pronounced Berzerker) is about the immortal demigod B, who fights through the centuries. The character, drawn by Ron Garney, bears a striking resemblance to Reeves, as one might know him from the "John Wick" action films.
Apart from the novel adaptation, there is also to be an animated series and a film, which Keanu Reeves might even direct himself.
Most recently, Reeves, who became known for films like "My Private Idaho," "Speed," and "Matrix," was seen in the fourth installment of "John Wick." Once again, death is omnipresent, as the 59-year-old plays the title character, a hitman who has already taken the lives of many fictional villains.
Keanu Reeves' novel, co-written with China Mieville, titled "The Book of Elsewhere," explores the theme of an immortal warrior desiring death, reflecting the actor's own contemplation of mortality. In Hollywood, where entertainment is the norm, Keanu Reeves continues to captivate audiences with his portrayal of death-defying characters, such as in the "John Wick" franchise.
