Hollywood star Keanu Reeves ("Matrix", "John Wick") is swapping the film set for the theater stage. The actor is set to make his Broadway debut in the fall of 2025 with a leading role in the classic "Waiting for Godot" in New York.

According to producers, the play will be directed by the renowned British director Jamie Lloyd. Reeves will be joined on stage by his acting colleague Alex Winter. The duo is known for the cult comedy "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" (1989) and two sequels in the science fiction series. The original film was one of Reeves' first in Hollywood.

Absurdist play as debut for Keanu Reeves

"We're really looking forward to being on stage together and working with the fantastic Jamie Lloyd on one of our favorite plays," "Playbill" quoted Reeves and Winter as saying in a statement.

Irish dramatist Samuel Beckett (1906-1989) published his play "Waiting for Godot" in 1953. It is considered the epitome of absurdist theater. The two tramps, Vladimir and Estragon, wait in vain for a certain Godot, meanwhile engaging in conversations about life. Reeves is set to play Estragon, Winter will portray Vladimir.

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are excited to perform on Broadway, particularly in the absurdist play "Waiting for Godot" directed by Jamie Lloyd. The classic play, written by Irish dramatist Samuel Beckett, will mark Keanu Reeves' Broadway debut as Estragon.
