Kate Beckinsale suffered from a tear in her esophagus
Six weeks in the spring, Kate Beckinsale had to be hospitalized. The actress is only now revealing the true drama surrounding her. A tear in the esophagus and family misfortunes made things difficult for her.
A mysterious hospital stay at Easter shocked her 5.6 million followers: Beckinsale posted terrifying images from her hospital bed, lying in a pool of blood at the time. She has since deleted those photos from her Instagram account, but now she has spoken extensively about why she spent a total of six weeks in the hospital.
In a video of herself on Instagram - in a belly-free micro-shirt in soft pink with a hamster print and matching bow - Beckinsale defended her weight loss, as trolls on her profile had commented that her "butt had run away."
"No, actually, I was there when my stepfather (director Roy Battersby, note: the speaker's father-in-law) suddenly and severely ill died. My mother has cancer in stage four, and I lost quite a bit of weight quickly due to stress and grief. I had already shared concerns about my mother Judy Loe with my followers in August 2023," she said calmly.
Beckinsale continues, she spent six weeks in the hospital until May of this year because the grief "burned a hole" in her esophagus, leading to excessive bleeding. "I could barely eat and then worked very hard on a film that also contained the theme of my father's death. So I'm not really worried about what you think about my butt," she dismissed the user who mocked her body.
Kate Beckinsale's Hospital Records
The London native had announced in March that she had been admitted to the hospital. Later, she hinted with a T-shirt that she was dealing with "stomach problems" and now revealed that she had suffered a tear in her esophagus.
In the past, Beckinsale had made her health issues public. In 2019, a burst cyst in her ovaries was discovered. She then revealed that she had mast cell activation syndrome - a systemic disease that can lead to chronic inflammatory conditions.
Kate Beckinsale's stepfather Roy Battersby died at the beginning of the year after a very short, severe illness. She had cared for the director until his death. The loss triggered a post-traumatic stress disorder, as her father, actor Richard Beckinsale, died of a heart attack in 1979 at the age of 32. The then five-year-old Kate found the body.
In the midst of her personal turmoils, Kate Beckinsale shared that her illness was exacerbated while filming a project that tackled similar themes of loss, alluding to her father's passing. Furthermore, amidst the buzz surrounding her weight loss, Hollywood's beloved actress traced it back to the emotional turmoil caused by her family illnesses and tragedies.
