Kate Beckinsale reveals reason for hospital stay
Six weeks in the spring, Kate Beckinsale had to be hospitalized. The actress is only now revealing the true drama surrounding her. A tear in the esophagus and family misfortunes made things difficult for her.
A mysterious hospital stay at Easter shocked her 5.6 million followers: Beckinsale posted terrifying images from her hospital bed, lying in a pool of fluid then. She has since deleted those photos from her Instagram account, but now speaks extensively about why she spent a total of six weeks in the hospital.
In a video on Instagram - in a belly-baring micro-shirt in soft pink with a hamster print and matching bow - Beckinsale defends her weight loss, as trolls on her profile commented that her "butt had run away."
"No, actually, I was watching as my stepfather (director Roy Battersby, note: the speaker's father-in-law) suddenly and unexpectedly died, my mother has cancer in stage four, and I lost quite a bit of weight from stress and grief quite quickly," she says calmly. Beckinsale had already shared her concerns about her mother Judy Loe with her followers in August 2023.
Beckinsale continues, she spent six weeks in the hospital until May of this year because the grief "burned a hole" in her esophagus, causing her to vomit a lot. "I could barely eat and then worked very hard on a film that also triggered me because it contained the theme of my father's death. So I don't really worry about what you think about my butt," she dismissed the user who mocked her body.
Kate Beckinsale's Medical Records
The London-born actress announced in March that she had been admitted to the hospital. Later, she hinted with a T-shirt that she was dealing with "stomach problems" and now reveals that she suffered a tear in the esophagus.
In the past, Beckinsale made her health issues public. In 2019, a ruptured cyst in her ovaries was discovered. She then revealed that she suffered from mast cell activation syndrome - a systemic disease that can lead to chronic inflammatory conditions.
Kate Beckinsale's stepfather Roy Battersby died suddenly and severely ill at the beginning of the year. She had cared for the director until his death. The loss triggered a post-traumatic stress disorder, as her father, actor Richard Beckinsale, died of a heart attack in 1979 at the age of 32. The then five-year-old Kate found his body.
Despite the challenges brought by her stepfather's sudden demise and her mother's stage four cancer diagnosis, Kate Beckinsale found solace in Hollywood entertainment. Amidst the criticism about her weight loss, she watched several films to cope, including one that resonated with her father's passing.
