already more than a million followers - Kamala Harris wins TikTok
The Neuwahlers could be the swing voters in this year's groundbreaking US Presidential election. It seems that the designated candidate of the Democrats, Vice-President Kamala Harris (59), is aware of this as well. After TikTok was recently flooded with memes related to Harris, the 59-year-old joined the social media platform officially. And with great success in a short time.
Harris has amassed over a million followers and 1.6 million likes (as of 26th July) on TikTok, and she follows no other account. Her chosen slogan on her profile reads "When we fight, we win". A short first video, which has been viewed over 4 million times, reveals why she joined TikTok. She learned about the hype surrounding her person there and thought "I should come here myself".
Clearly, this is a clever move. After all, the app is particularly popular among Gen Z, a large number of potential first-time voters. But even Donald Trump (78) has had an official TikTok account for a longer time, and his numbers are still far greater than Harris's. His profile currently has 9.2 million followers and 23.1 million likes.
The Harris boom continues
Since the resignation of the current US President Joe Biden (81), Harris is seen as the next challenger to Republican Trump for entry into the White House. The initial poll numbers for Harris may have given the Democrats some encouragement.
The outgoing President had also previously suggested Harris as his successor and confirmed this in his first address to the nation after his resignation letter. Harris is "experienced, tough, and capable. She was an incredible partner for me and a leader for our country. Now the decision is yours, the American people."
- Despite Donald Trump already having over a million followers on TikTok, Vice-President Kamala Harris's joined the platform recently and quickly amassed over 1 million followers and 1.6 million likes.
- It's worth noting that TikTok, being popular among Gen Z, could potentially attract a large number of first-time voters for the upcoming United States Presidency election.
- In light of the ongoing presidential race between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, Kamala Harris's TikTok presence and engagement could be a significant factor in the Democratic party's platform for winning over the youth vote.
- Interestingly, Donald Trump had also created an official TikTok account before Harris, and his profile currently boasts over 9 million followers and 23.1 million likes.
- Following his resignation, Joe Biden had publicly endorsed Kamala Harris as his successor, stating that she was "experienced, tough, and capable" and that the decision was now up to the American people.
