Justin Timberlake's mugshot is now art
Is it art or can it be removed? Artist Godfrey Lohman reportedly asked this question regarding Justin Timberlake's mugshot and turned police photos into art pieces. He now intends to sell them for a considerable price.
The arrest of pop star Justin Timberlake is no longer just a major topic in the media, it has also entered the art world. The police mugshot of the "Cry Me A River" singer is now on display in a gallery in the New York Hamptons.
According to Page Six, the mugshot is being exhibited at the Romany Kramoris Gallery in Sag Harbor. Timberlake was stopped by the police and taken to the station on June 18 for allegedly driving under the influence. The police photo of him, taken after his arrest, was declared a work of art by artist Godfrey Lohman. He produced a limited edition in various colors, which can be purchased. Anyone who wants to hang Timberlake in their living room must invest $520 (approximately 485 Euro).
Romany Kramoris, the gallery owner, was immediately enthusiastic about the idea. "My reaction was: 'Oh my God! That's amazing! Simply amazing!'" she told Page Six. It's no wonder that the exhibited mugshot artworks are expected to attract an endless line of gawkers who want to take photos of the artwork. However, the sale is reportedly proceeding rather slowly at the moment. According to her own statements, the gallery has sold "two or three" of the colorful prints so far. Timberlake's mugshot will be on display all summer long.
Timberlake only "wanted a glass of Martini"
Timberlake is scheduled to appear in court on July 26 regarding the alleged DUI. His lawyer will represent him since he is currently on tour and performing in Krakow, Poland on that day. The ex-husband of Britney Spears claims he had only "a glass of Martini" with friends during that evening.
However, witnesses and the police report contradict this. "His breath smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage, he was unable to focus on the conversation, he spoke slowly, was unsteady on his feet, and performed poorly on all standard sobriety tests," it says in the report. On the spot, the 43-year-old reportedly refused to take an alcohol test.
