- Julia von Heinz in Venice jury imposed rule: "Prohibited to doze off"
Filmmaker Julia von Heinz gets backing from her family during the Venice Film Fest. The 48-year-old filmmaker, famed globally with her project "And Tomorrow the Whole World", is part of the jury this year at this event. Her spouse and one of her offspring are accompanying her. Both her better half and son are also planning to catch flicks in Venice, she disclosed.
In response to which film deserves an award, she stated: "Obviously, I'd love it to show me something fresh, even in filmmaking techniques." She will be hunting for something that touches her "and potentially speaks about our current times", she shared with dpa during the Variety magazine's reception at the Hotel Danieli on the Grand Canal in Venice.
The Venice Film Festival is running from August 28 to September 7. A total of 21 contenders are vying for the leading award, the Golden Lion. "I've barely watched a handful of films thus far", says von Heinz. "Two, three films a day, the length is indeed quite a challenge here. I'm looking forward to it, I'll gear up since nodding off isn't an option, not even for a moment."
In Venice, she's "completely engrossed" in movie viewing. "There are an enormous number of films. Plus, one would also like to watch a few other films that aren't in competition", she said - referencing "September 5" by Tim Fehlbaum about the 1972 Munich Olympics attack as an instance.
Soon, von Heinz's initial international feature film "Treasure" with Lena Dunham and Stephen Fry will make its cinema debut (release on September 12).
She mentioned being excited to watch various films during the Venice Film Festival, as there are many options and even some that aren't in competition. The Venice Film Festival, where Julia von Heinz is part of the jury and her family is attending, features 21 competing films for the Golden Lion award.
