Jonny Greenwood, Radiohead-guitarist, is seriously ill
The Smile, a Radiohead side project band, is currently on Europe tour. Initially, there were supposed to be around ten concerts, including one each in Frankfurt and Munich. However, the band has now cancelled all shows. The alarming reason: Guitarist Jonny Greenwood is seriously ill.
Jonny Greenwood, the guitarist of the British rock band Radiohead, is seriously ill. The Smile then cancelled their remaining Europe tour dates in August. This news was announced on the X-Channel of the group as well as in an Instagram story from Radiohead. "A few days ago, Jonny fell seriously ill with an infection that required emergency hospitalization, part of which was on the intensive care unit," it says there about the events.
Now, the guitarist is reportedly "out of danger and will soon be back home". However, the group was advised by the medical team responsible for Greenwood's treatment to cancel all performances until the musician has fully recovered. "Therefore, The Smile's Europe tour in August is cancelled," the band writes further.
The band was scheduled to perform around ten shows in Europe in August, including in Frankfurt (20.8.) and Munich (21.8.). In June, the group had already played three concerts in Hamburg, Cologne and Berlin. On the official merchandise store website of the band, the concerts in Latvia, Poland, Austria, France, Spain and Switzerland, which were scheduled from the 13th to the 28th of August, were marked as "cancelled".
The Smile consists of Radiohead members Greenwood and the legendary singer Thom Yorke, whose unforgettable hits include "Creep" and "Karma Police". Drummer Tom Skinner completes the band. Originally, concerts in August were planned in Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna. These are now cancelled. "We all wish Jonny a speedy recovery," the group writes further.
Despite Jonny Greenwood's illness leading to the cancellation of all shows, The Smile had previously delighted European audiences with performances in Hamburg, Cologne, and Berlin. Unfortunately, due to Greenwood's health condition, the band's planned Music events in Frankfurt, Munich, and other European cities, including France, Spain, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, and Latvia, have also been cancelled.
