"Our mother was a force to be reckoned with. Her spirit and attitude shaped this family. We will miss her greatly," writes the 62-year-old singer in a statement on behalf of the entire family, as quoted by the US magazine "People." The funeral is to take place in private.
Carol Bongiovi and her husband John Bongiovi Sr. significantly influenced Jon Bon Jovi's music career: They gave the seven-year-old Jon his first guitar for Christmas. Ten years later, they allowed him his first performances.
Mother founded Bon-Jovi fan club
"They always supported me, which was incredible in retrospect. I could come home as late as one or two in the morning and still had to be at school by eight. They just said: Come to school on time, you know that's your responsibility, but follow your dream," Jon Bon Jovi gushed about his parents. His mother even founded "Backstage with Bon Jovi," the official fan club of his band, and led it until 2006.
