British blues musician John Mayall is dead. The "Godfather of British Blues" passed away on Monday at the age of 90 in his adopted home of California, according to a statement on the musician's Internet profiles, which were reported by several media outlets. He reportedly passed away due to health issues. "John Mayall dedicated himself tirelessly for 90 years to teaching, inspiring, and entertaining," the post further read.

Since the 1960s, John Mayall has shaped the blues in Britain like few other musicians. In the band he founded, The Bluesbreakers, played numerous stars over the decades, including Eric Clapton and later Fleetwood Mac members Peter Green, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood. The influential British multi-instrumentalist and bandleader continued to tour regularly well into old age, until he gave a shorter performance in 2022. Mayall turned 90 on November 29, 2023.

The blues musician received the Order of the British Empire at Buckingham Palace in 2005 and was inducted into the "Blues Hall of Fame" in 2016. His personal life was somewhat more stable than the lineup of his Bluesbreakers. Mayall was married twice, and from these marriages came six children.
