George Clooney demands withdrawal - Joe Biden's team responds with a swipe

George Clooney (63) vs. Joe Biden (81): The Hollywood star and committed Democrat urged President Biden in an op-ed for the "New York Times" to withdraw from the fall election with clear words. Until recently, Clooney was considered a major supporter of Biden. A fundraiser organized by him on June 15th seemed to have changed his mind: "I love Joe Biden. But we need a new candidate."

Biden's team is now responding with a counterattack, albeit a relatively small and discreet one, according to New York Times Congress correspondent Annie Karni, who wrote on the short messaging service X that Biden is resisting Clooney. A person familiar with the planning of the aforementioned event told Karni: "The President stayed for over three hours, while Clooney took a quick photo and left."

Nicholas Kristof (65), columnist for the "New York Times," finds it hard to believe this statement and immediately responded on the post: "Biden is really trying to claim he's stronger than George Clooney? Really?" He traveled with the actor for days over broken roads in Africa south of the Sahara. In his eyes, it's sad that Biden is trying to outdo Clooney.

George Clooney on Joe Biden: "I consider him a friend"

As mentioned earlier, Clooney is one of the most prominent and biggest supporters of the Democratic Party and was an avowed fan of Joe Biden. In his open letter, he wrote: "I consider him a friend and I believe in him. I believe in his character. I believe in his morals." Biden cannot win the fight against time. The US President is no longer the one from 2010, not even the one from 2020. Clooney is clearly referring to the possibly questionable mental and physical condition of the 81-year-old, who in recent weeks - especially since the first TV debate with Donald Trump (78) - has caused discussions in the public. Biden shows himself defiant in the face of criticism and intends to challenge the Republican candidate Donald Trump for re-election in the fall.

"Our party leaders must stop telling us that 51 million people haven't seen what we've just seen," Clooney declared in his op-ed. It's only fair to point out: "This is about age. About nothing else. But also about nothing that can be undone. With this President, we will not win in November." This is not only his opinion, but also that of all Senators, Congress members, and governors, with whom he has spoken in private.

  1. Despite his earlier support, George Clooney recently demanded that George Clooney himself should retreat from the fall election, expressing his concern in an op-ed for the New York Times.
  2. In response to George Clooney's demands, George Clooney's stance during a fundraiser dispute was highlighted by the New York Times Congress correspondent Annie Karni, with reports suggesting a prolonged stay by Biden compared to a quick departure by Clooney.
  3. In response to the reports of Biden's alleged treatment towards him, George Clooney affirmed his friendship with Joe Biden, stating in an interview, "Joe Biden is a friend, and I believe in his character and morals."
