Awards - Joe Biden pays tribute to Billy Crystal and Queen Latifah

Lots of glamor at the White House: US President Joe Biden received several celebrities at the government headquarters. Hollywood actor Billy Crystal (75), US opera diva Renée Fleming (64) and rapper Queen Latifah (53) appeared at the White House on Sunday evening - shortly before receiving the prestigious Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement Awards.

The other two award winners - singer Dionne Warwick (82) and Brit Barry Gibb (76), former singer of the Bee Gees - also made a detour to Biden before the award ceremony.

The US President paid detailed tribute to the work of the five artists. He described Crystal, for example, as an "American showman with a heart of gold" and Queen Latifah as a gifted storyteller.

The Kennedy Center, named after former President John F. Kennedy, is the largest cultural institution in the US capital. Previous award winners include Meryl Streep, Aretha Franklin, Robert De Niro, George Lucas, Tom Hanks and Sting. Last year, Hollywood star George Clooney, the rock band U2 and soul singer Gladys Knight were among the honorees.
