- Jimmy Kimmel: The Oscars were just too much last year.
US-Moderator Jimmy Kimmel (56) will take a break from hosting the Oscars as the preparation is taking too much of his time. "Last year was just too much," said the entertainer, who has hosted the glamorous film gala for the past two years, in the podcast "Politickin".
"When it comes to something like the Oscars, I'm all in. I think about it morning and night," he explained. His "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" show then suddenly feels like a "hindrance". "By the end, you're pushing everything until after the Oscar ceremony," and later you have to catch up on everything. "I've just decided that I don't want to deal with that this year."
Kimmel has hosted the Oscars a total of four times: in 2017 and 2018, and again in 2023 and 2024. Last month, it was announced that Kimmel, along with US actor and comedian John Mulaney, had declined to host the next Oscars. Who will host the 97th Oscar gala in March 2025 in Los Angeles is still unknown.
Despite Jimmy Kimmel's decision to step away from hosting the Oscars this year, his affinity for the event remains evident as he mentioned thinking about it continuously. The absence of Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney as hosts for the 97th Oscar gala leaves the television screen for the grand event in March 2025 in Los Angeles waiting for a new face.
