Jimmy Kimmel hosts the Oscars again

The Oscar Academy has announced who will host next year's awards gala. On March 10, Jimmy Kimmel, an old acquaintance, will be on stage, as it will be the fourth time for the US late-night talker. The 56-year-old has reportedly always dreamed of this.

Jimmy Kimmel will host the upcoming Academy Awards. This has now been announced by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which presents the world's most important film award. Kimmel is taking on the role of Oscars presenter for the second time in a row and the fourth time overall. Following Will Smith's scandal at the 2022 Oscars - the actor slapped Chris Rock on stage - Kimmel carefully hosted the ceremony this year. The next Oscars ceremony is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on March 10, 2024.

Late-night comedian Kimmel, who already hosted the Oscars in 2017 and 2018, said in a statement about his planned return as host of the ceremony, according to media reports: "I've always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times." That is not yet a record for an Oscars presenter. Bob Hope has hosted or co-hosted the world's most important film awards ceremony 19 times. Billy Crystal hosted nine times between 1990 and 2012. Like Kimmel, Whoopi Goldberg has also hosted the show four times.

However,as the New York Times reports, many stars are reluctant when it comes to hosting the Oscars. The reasons for this are the time commitment involved and possible negative reactions, especially on social media.

These are the favorites

Now that the actors' strike has ended, the campaigns for the award ceremonies in Hollywood have begun. According to the New York Times, Emma Stone, for example, is the frontrunner for a best actress nomination for her performance in the surreal comedy "Poor Things". The satirical film "American Fiction" with Jeffrey Wright is also apparently considered to have a good chance.

Other films expected to play a prominent role at the 96th Academy Awards are "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer". Both films were huge box office successes worldwide. However, the nominees will not be announced until January 23.
