Former national player in court - Jérôme Boateng only warned
The Munich I Regional Court warned former football national player Jérôme Boateng for intentional bodily harm. A suspended fine of 40 installments, each of 5,000 Euro was imposed. Similar to a prison sentence on probation, Boateng only needs to pay the 200,000 Euro if he gets into trouble again.
The court came to the conclusion, as formulated by Presiding Judge Susanne Hemmerich, that "there is nothing left of the accusation of notorious woman beater." The prosecution had demanded a fine of 1.12 million Euro, while the defense at most spoke of a "moderate fine" for negligent bodily harm or the termination of the proceedings against a fine.
Boateng denied the allegations
Boateng denied hitting his former partner in the joint vacation in 2018 with a windsurf sail and a cooler box. He spoke of a "nightmare" on the first trial day, his lawyer in his plea of a "fabricated narrative of the woman beater," "mutual body harm," and Boateng pushing his ex-girlfriend away and injuring her lip.
The lawyer of Boateng's ex-girlfriend, who accuses him of violence, said, "It's a real David-against-Goliath fight." Boateng shows "no sense of injustice."
Lengthy proceedings
The proceedings against the long-standing defender of FC Bayern München, who recently switched from the Italian club US Salernitana to Linzer ASK in Austria, are lengthy. The Munich District Court had already imposed a fine against Boateng in 2021: 60 installments of 30,000 Euro each, totaling 1.8 million Euro.
The Munich I Regional Court then sentenced Boateng in the second instance in October 2022 for bodily harm and defamation to a fine of 120 installments of 10,000 Euro - a total of 1.2 million Euro. However, the Bavarian Highest Regional Court quashed the judgment due to persistent legal errors - that's why the case was rolled back before the Munich I Regional Court.
