Jeff Bezos turns his back on Seattle
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is planning to move from Seattle to Miami. The billionaire announced this in an Instagram post. He has never lived anywhere longer than in Seattle, but his move is an "emotional decision", as he writes.
The 59-year-old entrepreneur published a video showing him during his first career steps. His stepfather Miguel films him in the first Amazon office in history, while Bezos shows him the furnishings with fax machines, old computers and cable telephones. "Seattle has been my home since 1994, when I founded Amazon out of my garage," Bezos recalls.
In the post, he mentions that his parents had recently moved back to Miami. Bezos had lived with his parents in Miami for several years and attended Miami Palmetto Senior High School there. "Miami Palmetto High class of '82 - GO Panthers!", he writes on Instagram. The motivation behind his decision to move was primarily his mother and stepfather. "My parents have always been my biggest supporters," he explains, "I want to be close to my parents and [my fiancée, editor's note] Lauren and I love Miami."
But a business aspect also plays a role: the operations of his aerospace company Blue Origin are increasingly moving to Cape Canaveral on the east coast of Florida. "For all these reasons, I plan to return to Miami and leave the Pacific Northwest," says Bezos. The entrepreneur has many fond memories of the city where it all began. "Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart," Jeff Bezos concludes his post.
Despite his deep connection with Seattle, where he established Amazon, Jeff Bezos is drawn towards entertainment opportunities in Miami. His decision to move is influenced by his parents' return to Miami and his love for the city, where he attended high school and has fond memories. (Jeff Bezos, Miami, entertainment, Seattle)
Moreover, the relocation also aligns with the growing operations of his aerospace company, Blue Origin, in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Jeff Bezos, who once started Amazon in a garage in Washington (State), shares a nostalgic sentiment about his time in the Pacific Northwest, saying, "Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart."
