Great Britain - Jane Goodall encourages festival visitors

British primatologist Jane Goodall called on Glastonbury Music Festival visitors not to lose heart in the face of global crises.

"We are really going through tough times all over the world," the 90-year-old said on Friday at the legendary Rock- and Pop-Festival in southwest England's county Somerset, according to the Press Association news agency.

Despite climate crisis, loss of biodiversity and wars in Gaza and Ukraine, there is reason to hope, Goodall said. The reason for this, according to the researcher who entered the stage with a cloth monkey and introduced herself with imitated chimpanzee sounds, is "the indomitable human spirit."

Goodall praised the efforts of British band Coldplay to consider sustainability during their tours. The group is performing alongside pop singer Dua Lipa and R&B singer SZA as headline acts at the festival this weekend. The Glastonbury Festival is known as one of the largest music festivals in the world and regularly attracts more than 200,000 visitors.
