For the first time since his serious illness in April 2023, Jamie Foxx is back in public. The Oscar winner made a surprise appearance on stage at a Critics Choice Association awards ceremony on Monday. At the Celebration of Black Cinema Awards, he was honored with an award for the Amazon film "War of the Undertakers".
Six months ago, he couldn't even walk, the 55-year-old revealed at the beginning of his acceptance speech published on X. He wouldn't wish what he had gone through on even his worst enemy: "It's hard when it's almost over." He had "seen the tunnel", said Foxx. He didn't see the light at the time.
He has "a new respect for life"
"I have a new respect for life. I have a new respect for my art," Foxx said on stage. During his recovery phase, he said, he watched a lot of films and listened to a lot of music to make the time pass more quickly. The actor then joked about rumors that he had died and been cloned. "I'm not a clone," he affirmed.
What exactly led to his hospitalization a good eight months ago, Foxx did not say this time either. On April 12, he was taken to a clinic due to "medical complications", as it was called at the time. In July, he addressed his fans for the first time in a video. "I've been through hell and back", he said in tears. His sister Deidra Dixon and his daughter Corinne had saved his life.
Jamie Foxx is also currently on trial for alleged sexual harassment. This is according to court documents, which are also reportedly available to "People" magazine. According to the documents, a woman claims that she was sexually harassed by the actor in a New York restaurant in 2015.
He "intentionally and without her consent touched her offensively using force", it is said. Foxx, on the other hand, announced immediately after the lawsuit that the incident "never happened".
