It's crucial to enhance the minimum wage to a minimum of 14 euros without delay.

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance recently urged for an urgent boost in the minimum wage and slammed Chancellor Olaf Scholz's plan to hike the minimum wage as "far-fetched." BSW co-chair Amira Mohamed Ali expressed her thoughts on ZDF's "Morgenmagazin," stating, "I believe it's essential we have a minimum wage in Germany that enables people to survive comfortably. To achieve that, we require at least 14 euros at present, and we need to act quickly."

In April, a proposal from her party was turned down by the Bundestag. With the SPD also voting against it, she found Scholz's comments a bit disbelieving. Recenty, the Chancellor has expressed support for incrementally raising the minimum wage to 14 euros, then 15 euros — but without providing a concrete timetable.

As of now, the minimum wage is 12.41 euros, set to increase by another 41 cents starting January 2025 in response to last year's Minimum Wage Commission recommendation. Lately, the SPD, Greens, and labor unions have all pushed for a 15-euro minimum wage.

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance criticized Chancellor Scholz's plan to gradually increase the minimum wage to 14 euros and then 15 euros, as they believe it needs to be implemented sooner, considering the current minimum wage of 12.41 euros. Amidst this, BSW co-chair Amira Mohamed Ali advocated for a minimum wage of at least 14 euros in Euros to ensure a comfortable living, aligning with the European average.
