Maria Rosaria Omaggio - Italian actress dies at 67
Large mourning for Maria Rosaria Omaggio (1957-2024). The Italian actress passed away on Monday (1st July) in her hometown Rome. "With the death of Maria Rosaria Omaggio, we bid farewell to a brilliant Italian film and theater actress, an icon, who worked with the greatest actors and directors", wrote Federico Mollicone (53), President of the Italian Commission for Culture, Science and Education, on his Instagram account.
Omaggio, who gained international success through her role as the Italian star journalist Oriana Fallaci in Andrzej Wajda's film "Walesa. Man of Hope", was 67 years old. "We will always remember her irony, her sensitivity and her elegance. ... Life is a stage, on which you were a queen. Now you have boarded your carriage and are riding to other stages and other characters", Mollicone continued in his eulogy.
One of the most famous theater actresses in Italy
Maria Rosaria Omaggio made her breakthrough in 1976 in the film "The Viper". Among her works were also "To Rome with Love" by director Woody Allen (88). For her role in "Walesa", she was awarded the Pasinetti Award at the Venice Film Festival in 2013.
During her career, Omaggio worked in over 40 film and television productions and also appeared in numerous theater productions. Most recently, the actress, who had been ill for some time, played in the TV film "Saturday, Sunday and Monday" in 2021.
